Student Curriculum

It is our mission at Dartmouth Middle School to give each student the opportunity to experience success by providing student-centered and standard-based programs designed to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of the middle school student.

Student Curriculum:

6th Grade:

All students at Dartmouth belong to an interdisciplinary “team” of teachers. Our 6th grade program provides for a smooth transition from the self-contained elementary classroom by having a group of teachers share common students for language arts, social science, science and mathematics.  This team works closely together to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of their students and foster their success and development.

In addition to these classes, students will also have a daily exploratory course.  The exploratory classes rotate each quarter. These exploratory courses may include Life Skills, Exploring Cultures, Study Skills, and Technology. Some students may choose the option of taking a full year of band as their exploratory course.

7th Grade:

Seventh grade students at Dartmouth attend six classes.  The core classes of English, science, social studies and math will be taught within a team of teachers.  Several teachers, sharing common students, will work closely together to provide for the academic, social and emotional needs of each student. Outside the team, each student will have a full year of physical education.  Additionally, all students will have one exploratory class daily.  The exploratory classes rotate each quarter. These classes may include Drama, Exploring Cultures, STEM, Programming, and Green Architecture. These exploratory classes supplement our curriculum, offering an exciting educational and social environment for students.  It is our goal to provide dynamic learning opportunities for our students.

In lieu of the required exploratory courses, students who have participated in beginning band may choose to take a year of Concert (intermediate) band as their exploratory course. Some students also have the option to audition and participate in Symphonic band, which meets before school.

8th Grade:

Eighth grade students at Dartmouth attend six classes.  The core classes of English, science, social studies and math will be taught within a team of teachers.  Several teachers, sharing common students, will work closely together to provide for the academic, social and emotional needs of each student.  Outside the team, each student will have a full year of physical education.  Additionally, your child will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of exploratory classes next year. All students will have one exploratory class daily. The exploratory classes rotate each quarter. These classes may include: Exploring Cultures, STEM, Computer Science, and Project Lead the Way.  These exploratory classes supplement our curriculum, offering an exciting educational and social environment for students.  It is our goal to provide dynamic learning opportunities for our students.
